Just 11 km from the Argentario promontory, in the heart of the Tyrrhenian Sea, there is one of the most popular islands for Italian seaside holidays: Giglio Island. Among the various possible travel ideas in Italy, this island has the advantage of being an ideal destination for those who love sunbathing on the beach, as well as for diving enthusiasts with its beautiful seabeds rich in a large variety of fish. Giglio Island is one of the islands that make up the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and allows stays in close contact with nature, in absolute relaxation, but also allowing many sports activities. For trekking lovers, there are many marked routes within the island: for example, do not miss the one that leads to Poggio della Pagana from where you can admire the entire archipelago. The best time for a holiday on Giglio Island is certainly the period between March and June when spring unleashes a true explosion of colors and scents that make the island beautiful. The Giglio Island offers 28 km of coastline that develops between granite cliffs, bays, coves and sandy beaches sheltered from the wind. It goes without saying that the crystal clear waters, the colorful seabed and the richness of the fish species present make the place particularly appreciated by diving enthusiasts who recognize this island as one of the best Italian sites for diving. In the deeper waters it is also possible to admire amberjacks and barracudas as well as enormous tuna, while the cliffs that plunge into the sea host moray eels, lobsters and groupers among their ravines. To get to Giglio Island, the ferry boarding point is at Porto Santo Stefano . Upon arrival at Giglio Island, you are greeted by Giglio Porto : a town formed by a real arch of colorful houses overlooking the sea and lively at any time with its numerous diving centers and its restaurants and bars on the seafront. 6 km separate Giglio Porto from Giglio Castello where the village is surrounded by the wall and the ten Towers that culminate in the Rocca Aldobrandesca. Many people walk up the 6 km to admire the Giglio coast from above. For those who prefer a more comfortable journey, and do not have a car, the public bus service connects the towns of the island with continuous runs all day. For comfortable accommodation, you can head to Giglio Campese : a quiet town with a beautiful city beach. Just a little service information: in high season, generally from mid-July to the end of August, it is forbidden to disembark cars that do not belong to residents, so you will have to leave your car in Porto Santo Stefano in one of the many guarded car parks around the embarkation point.
